Thread: D1 no drive unless CDL engaged

stripped splines in front drive flange.

If you are unlucky it may even be the front diff centre, it was in my mates defender. We thought axle or cv to start with but unfortunately his had been run low on oil I suspect and spat the spider gears out as it broke the spider gear shaft/pins and flogged out the carrier. It wasn't pretty but I'd imagine that would be a rare case...............probably not for him but the rest of world. We thought by feel of turning the axles that it was one of them broken but after pulling both out and making a mess with the swivel hubs and there gear oil etc. we found the problem was internal. Defender and Disco 1 have the same front axle and the diff centre is removable leaving the axle in car once the axles are removed ofcourse.
