most likely is the short side CV or half shaft, Its got a fraction less length and ability to resist shock loading than the longer side shaft.

and like an idiot when I said left side I was wrong, its actually the right side thats the short side when viewed from the driver seat and its on yoyur left side when you look at it from the front of the vehicle.

Bit more internet searching this morning...could be front drive flange also!
Is there a way to specifically check those, without having to take the whole shafts out??

    The diagnosis investigation continues!
    So today:
    1. With difflock engaged, box in drive, both front wheels lock solid.
    2. With difflock off, box in drive and Hi range, both front wheels spin freely (as I expect they should!)...But the driver side makes a noise!...sounds like metal spinning around....Busted CV?? I guess that would explain why it doesnt go in Hi without engaging difflock, as all the power is going to the buggered side??

means theres something wrong on the drivers side.

you have to remove the flange, or at least the circlips to change the stub and half shaft anyway so its worth pulling the protective cap off of the flange and seeing if the CV is turning in the flange, if it is yo might get lucky and just replacing the flange will get you going.

if your not lucky you then need to strip down the swivel assembly to replace the damaged parts, theres 2 routes you can go.

    1. strip off the hub and pull the stub axle taking the damaged parts out that way

    or

    2. strip down the CV leaving the hub alone and take the parts out that way

its pretty much 50/50 in terms of time and effort.

    Great advice thanks mate
Will a break of a CV or half shaft fit with this current finding?????:
If difflock NOT engaged, but in Hi range, with box in drive, I can spin the front prop shaft by hand freely. With difflock engaged and box in Drive, the front prop is basically solid.
Just wanting to convince myself that the issue is NOT in the transfer case

If the rear wheels are on the ground and you have locked the centre diff the front drive will NOT turn as its directly coupled to the rear drive shaft.
