Have you traced the wiring from the alternator to see if it may be getting wet, the only thing I can imagine causing it.
Hello All,
This is my first post but I also read all Disco 1 Post about Tach issues.
Issue:
Tach cuts out when crossing water (not to deep 3 foot). Once out of the water it works fine. rest of the time runs perfect.
I dont think water is getting up to the alt during the crossing.
Any ideas as what it could be. CPS short?
Thanks heaps

You don't have a CPS. All you're seeing is a slipping drive belt drive due to water splash. Seeing that it goes away as soon as you get out of the water I'd just accept is as one of those LR things.![]()
Tdi alt is low so wouldnt be surprised if water did cause it.

Can he post a pic of the belt routing i can bet the belt is on incorrectly ( believe it or not you can do it on a serpentine belt V8 ) or it may be the wrong length one. Even when wet they don't slip really badly unless revved hard if they are the right belt length fitted right.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
Would take the guesswork out if people actually stated which engine was dragging them around......![]()
All D1 tachos drive off a belt driven alternator. That is really all the information you need to know. I've even converted a shiny new V8 alternator into a diesel one by swapping the front housing and pulley, so there's no difference in the internal design. The only point at which the engine makes a difference is when you drown the ignition distributor, and the OP didn't mention that event.![]()
Well that makes life easier....my TDi has the wiring quite high, he must have low wires or very deep water....def sounds electrical to me....at least worth checking.
