    Insurance...INSURANCE INSURANCE INSURANCE!!! (Melbourne)

So it's that time again, really trying to look for cheaper insurance and I hardly ever drive my Disco because I have a work BT50 (new one) that I drive as my daily driver and my Disco just sits in the shed not getting city kms on it

Best I could get from Shannons was about $850. I'm currently on a good wicket with Youi at about $650 which was from some negotiating a few years ago but I remember finding a really cheap option somewhere online and I think I found it through a recommendation on here but I can't for the life of me remember what that was.

Any suggestions for smaller insurers in Melbourne or Australia for a D1 300 Tdi?

You're gonna tell me to use the search function aren't you?

to be honest, cheapest i found was with insurance company which sounds like a girl's name. always been cheaper with them, even my honda and my motorbike.

have called a few times different companies to see if i could save money but was never the case. even youi with the guy constantly calling me and saying he can do me good deal and lets talk about it and he could never match my current deal.

as loanrangie says bring it right down to as basic as you can. instead of comprehensive.

I agree. On a vehicle that old they will just write it off rather than fix it anyway, and you'll still be left out of pocket. May as well keep some cash and fix it yourself if you need.

I'm with youi and since being with them i have found them very good. Easy to talk to and you can modify your cover 100 times a year online eg to add drivers. I add my under 25 brother to the policy for two weeks when he borrowed our old car, then took him off. Total cost, $4. Excess reduction if he had an accident $2000.

    Cheers

Yeah I don't think Youi are that bad, I've had good dealings with them, good and easy...although never made a claim.

I have an agreed value with them too which is a lot higher than market value, still not that high though I guess. Hmmm...

I used to insure my D1 V8 with Shannons. Moved a couple of years ago to Auspost (Auto & General Insurance). $312 fully comp with $500 excess and under 10km a year usage option. They got reasonable reviews on productreview.com but you never really know until you make a claim. Shannons gets awful reviews.

I've had 2 claims with Shannons, ( not at fault ) cvery easy to deal with, they asked me to take it to my preferred panel beater. The panel beater did the paper work, shannons asked if i was happy to have my car repaired at my panel beater and processed the claim.
Any driver of my vehicles is covered as long as they had my permission.
I have 7 vehicles insured with them as well as my home and contents.
Tried all the others, but their premiums were too high.

My sister inlaw rang youi they ask a lot of questions, then gave here a very dearer quote than Shannons

If I were driving the car every day and taking it off road and using it properly then I'd pay the money and go with Shannons, by all accounts they seemed pretty decent to me but just a bit dearer than what I've got at the moment and I hardly use the car.

I did come across DGA Insurance Brokers which have a 4WD insurance section and I think I remember getting a quote from them a few years back and they were well priced. Might give them a go again.

Auspost? Really?? The post office??? Haha everyone is getting in on insurance these days, do they also give you free lattes when you buy a policy?

Wow, thanks for the Auspost recommendation, I just did a quote with them and listed all the mods and accessories etc and full comp quote was the cheapest I've seen anywhere! Not sure what the value is though haha they didn't ask for that I guess it's market value, or Auspost value of $500 haha gotta be a catch somewhere!
