I wouldn't get too concerned just yet. Even if the alternator is starting to die, it could be something as simple as a set of brushes. My 3.9 out of a D1 sits on 14.0 and drops to 13.8 under load and everything is fine with that.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
Put mine in, as was unsure, and the car is in bits anyway. New regs brushes and bearings, all cleaned up. $160, picked up today. Talk to the sparky. His take is, keep it original. The Italian alterators are good kit, and the so called "universal" ones are Chinese cr@#$.
Just find a good sparky.

Magneti marelli are the original ones but stamped something else. You can still see the marelli written on the black plastic cover on back.
Sometimes the terminal is shot at the back of alt and you just cut it off with a cm or so of the wire and recrimp a new terminal in.
I put new alt n was still jumpy, cleaned old terminal and still jumpy. Cut the old terminal off and rewired a new one on and problem went away
I'll check it out today if the bloody rain buggers off😃I'm still hoping for a bodgy connection 😒Thanks again all😎

My previous D1 had the same problem. Ended up getting the original alternator reconditioned which fixed the problem. My current Defender sits on 14 volts.
