Anyone ever do the bonnet mount spare tyre on a Disco?

I'm wondering if anyone has ever done...and if it's at all possible...to do the Defender esque spare tyre mount on the bonnet, but on a Disco??

    Is this utter madness??!!

I expect someone, somewhere has done it, but I have never seen one. The major issue I see is that having much wider tyres, it is going to significantly affect forward vision, especially on sharp crests. And would almost certainly attract unroadworthy stickers from the authorities if used on the road, with most states disallowing anything not factory that intrudes on the driver's field of vision.

Yes, if you remove the bonnet and strap the spare to the engine it may last longer.

I'm not sure if it would comply with the road laws because of the step up in height.

What about if he tried a space saver?
Can you even get an all terrain or mud terrain space saver?
I think the other difficulty would be finding a wheel to suit the 90 or 100 width .. maybe an old series 1 wheel.

ps. bonnet is heavy enough as it is(for what it is!) let alone with a spare on it too.
You'd need a couple of decent hydraulics to help open it.

I did one for a mate at his request. I had concerns over the tyre being too heavy and the bonnet too flimsy but he wanted it anyway. I re-inforced the bonnet with two stepped layers of chequer plate to distribute the weight. It looked pretty tidy but then he went and sold the Disco before he got a chance to try it out. (He did pay me though. Eventually!!) If you search you might find a thread on it on this forum as I think I posted some pictures of it. It did make the bonnet heavy to lift and I had concerns about the stress to the hinges. I intended to add some extra load sharing points depending on how it performed but that never eventuated either. The obstruction issues are a factor to consider.
