    OBD2 scanner issues

    Hey all,

New to the forum. I have a 1997 build 1998 disco 1 v8 petrol. She's had plenty of issues. Just had to switch out the fuel pump to get her to start... neverminding that bit of fun and more relevant is that the last owner did heck knows what to the wiring ... looks like he tried to add an additional 12v supply from the cigar lighter and had destroyed his radio so I had to rip out the wiring mess - literal mess unsealed wires etc- and replace the radio with an aftermarket.

So I noticed that there is an obd 2 port under the drivers wheel. I think the car is efi hotwire though.
But i figured I'd take a chance and see if I could get an obd2 bluetooth running.

It gets power from the port but fails to link.

    So my questions-
Is the port a dud? If so could i use one of the obd 1 to obd 2 adapters or are those a complete waste of money? I can't afford a hawkeye sadly.

Could it be a k1 issue due to the aftermarket radio? I know in vws that can cause the obd 2 to fail and you have to disconnect that set of wires completely and fiddle to make the radio work. Would a bypass be worth it to get it going or again is the car incompatible ?

Finally could the 12v wiring tap be causing it? I removed up to the fuses. Plugged them out sealed em and left the ground just in case... do i need to backtrack and undo it? I was hoping to use it if it sort of works in any way to get a reverse camera and cb going.

I don't think the Oz market got an OBD2 compliant ECU in a D1. The port is part of the vehicle wiring for other countries.

G'day. I have a tdi D1, and to my knowledge there's nothing on these that actually talks to anything else. A few of the late ones had some electronic fuel gizmo (only for pollution control, i think) but that's it. Is it an efi motor, or carby?

Awwww. Okay thank you. Any idea if the obd 1 to 2 adapter may work?

    EFI I think. It's got injectors 😂

As far as I understand it the obd system was primarily for emission control reasons, so here's hoping

My experience is the same as doh above.
my D1 is a 99 build, Tdi .. and I get zero output from my bluetooth ODB device too.

I got good data going to it from my old Frontera(Holden/Isuzu), and I also see good data from the device when hooked up to the D2(V8).

But nothing at all when hooked up to the D1.

On a D1 there is only OBD1, not OBD2(unless USA spec). The following stolen from another site to save me writing it out:

"The 1995 OBD Port was not compatible with the standards, however the 1996 one might be if it was made to American Spec as I think it became compulsory on all American Spec vehicles from 1996"

"On the UK spec vehicles it's just used for connecting up to the LR type diagnostics equipment, such as Testbook or Rovacom which costs thousands of pounds."

"For a Disco 1(none US market) the OBD socket will only allow access to the 10AS Alarm ECU. The socket, a 16 pin item, is at the bottom edge of the dash panel.
The engine management system, called hotwire, uses a 14CUX ECU and is not OBD compliant. The socket is behind the panel on the outside of the RHS footwell. Diagnostic access can be achieved by units such as Rovacom or Autologic.
There may be other economic systems that claim compatibility but these two do work. Rovacom will also access the 10AS Alarm ECU."

I have a D1 in Thailand, which is supposed to be Middle East Spec, and it only works as above.

On a D1, hawkeye diagnostic tool will allow you to read and clear ABS faults, read/clear and program the 10AS alarm and key fobs. It does nothing with the TDI as the Oz TDI has no electronics.

great thank you very much, I will look into affordable options, other than the hawkeye, I have read rovergauge is not bad at all. Though it has no live data. Will revert once I have tested it out

This was really useful information . I think I may go for something like this Foxwell NT510 OBD2 OBD1 Scan Tool For Land Rover and Jaguar Reset Code Reader | eBay

I just can't really justify spending more on it.

Have any experience with these? Looks like it is compatible.
