    Alpine seals....???

    Good day all...
I am in the process of stopping water coming into the old Disco... as we all do...
And have decided its time for those Alpine windows to come out for some rust treatment.
All work done - small holes filled, sanded, painted.....
time for the windows to go back in.
.... I didn't expect it to be an easy job, but was hoping that a bit of patience and persistence would help ... as it usually does.

HOWEVER - turns out I was wrong.
And I now successfully split the first brand new rubber seal upon *hours* of patience and persistence trying to fit the little strip of rubber filler...

    WHATS THE DEAL?
Has anyone got an idea -- I'm almost as far as saying those are the wrong seals.... or someone has fitted a different window before???

I got AWR1145, AWR 1146 and AWR1147, which seems to be the correct numbers as far as searches go.
For fitting, I got the rubber on the body and the glass in the rubber, all good thus far.
Once I attempted fitting the new strip though it all started failing... I applied heaps of silicone spray lube - handcrafted a fitting-diamond-shape-pushing-helping-tool, used a 9mm spanner and plastic trim remover things to try NOT to damage the seal...
    but it happened.
    3 times.
    buggered.

However before I start forking out more money, and before I start trying to fit the other side, has anyone got any pointers as to window thickness// filler strip thickness?

My window is 5mm thick and the 'old' rubber filler strip has about 7mm width whereas the new filler strip is about 9mm...
(yes, I did revert to using the old strip too, got it in about 10cm after 30min (!!!), but cannot for the life of me see how I'm supposed to bring it around the edges, let alone fit it to the opposite side, as it seems to squish the window hard up against the other end, leaving next to no gap to try and fit the strip.

    sorry for the frustration.
    I'm frustrated!!!
maybe someone has a helpful suggestion...
or I might have to pay someone to do it ((

    HELP!

Well, just a quick note for those who also struggle with the seal strip.
turns out genuine parts aren't always the smarter choice.
one of my seals was genuine, one aftermarket ((grumble)) as apparently LR do not make both sides anymore... I wasnt sure whether the genuine RH can be used LH as well, so I reluctantly got one each..

the one I started first was the genuine one, thinking it would be easier (the seal finish looked a lot neater and the rubber felt a bit softer) but, I was wrong...
the aftermarket one went in and on within no time (compared to the RH ordeal)...
same tools, same method, the actual seal was just a lot more forgiving.
and while you can see all sorts of stress marks on the genuine one (yes, I also got that done after a few more hours, pretty stubborn,...) the aftermarket one looks so much better...

I am amazed. And pretty pretty glad I got it all sorted in the end *celebration time*

for anyone attempting this get yourself sorted with one of those strip filler fitting tool things, or make one yourself... Definitely worth it, I don't think it can really be done without one (unless you're a superhero and have done it all before hehehe)

    happy weekend.....

there is a proper tool for fitting the seal.....I used to do it regularly when the kids kicked the windcsreens out of the little trucks at Seaworld.

I borrowed a tool from a windscreen fitter ( just paid a deposit ) and returned after use, worked a treat.
