Ahh.. nothing like owning a land rover..

Well following on from my previous thread regarding alternator bearing issues. I checked some other bearing and found out theyre stuffed to ( air con) i also figured I'd fix the weeping p gasket and do timing belt aswell.

Well thats when the real problems showed up. Not only were bolts rounded off but the the balancer was cross threaded and has chewed up the thread in crank and the balancer keyway is flogged out.

Cause someone never replaced the bolt last time balancer was changed. Its stretched bottom out in crank chewing up thread and left balancer loose to chew itself up on keyway.

To think a $30 bolt would have saved this motor.

If that was done by a supposedly mechanic he was a rough one that should have known better. If it was done by a owner then that would not be unusual. Takes a bit of experience to get the feel of a bolt if is done up right. So how is the crank shaft ? Hopefully that is still ok.

Well I've run a tap trough it there's some thread missing but it feels "ok" i wont really know till i try and torque it up. Hopefully it'll hold. Otherwise I'll tap it out to m22x1.5.

At least i'm in a position to do timing belt and get it back together.

As for who done I'm thinking it was previous owner. From what he told me he did all the work himself on it.
