    Catastrophic failure while driving

Well not quite, but when I lost all acceleration wile doing 70 on a pretty busy road it sure felt like it. Just got home from getting it towed home. My current diagnosis is a gone bearing in the transfer case/something with the transfer case. So the Disco had been having a groan/squeal coming from the transfer box for a while and I'd even bought a new one to be installed at MR Automotive next Friday. It seems it has gone today however. The noise made when the sudden loss of acceleration was similar to revving while not in gear, I didn't try it again in case of further damage. If anyone has any information of what else it could be I'd love to hear. Also the vehicle does not move in any gear or high low position / CDL position. It had to be winched in neutral. Thanks

You mention neutral. Does it roll away in park? The transfer case broken will stop park working. If park works have a look at the drive plate, visible via a small plate in the bottom of the bell housing.

Ill double check in the morning, thankfully I've got tomorrow off. And is there anything in particular I should be looking for in the drive plate?

Cracks I suppose. You can poke a large screw driver into the inspection hole and push the drive plate around. If the engine doesn't turn with it then that's you're problem.

Cheers, should I expect any oil in that compartment or any fluid, I'm relatively new to this stuff and just want to be able to help MR automotive fastrack their repair process. (Its my daily drive) I'm really hoping its the transfer gearbox because that seems the simplest to change over, plus I have a good condition secondhand one ready to be put in. Will keep you guys posted!

Is the car auto or manual? If a manual, did you try to drive in fourth/reverse? ( I know you said any gear, but people forget under these circumstances)

If an auto, then as Bee Utey said, does it roll in park?

Not confused, just need clarity. So, will it roll in park?
