For sure my 1998 D1 was fitted with a factory immobilser. The actual unit is behind the radio, a round metal can in mine called a "spider". There is, or was, a bypass plug available because the things were notorious for failing and leaving the car stranded. (ask me how I know!) Yours may well have been changed already? Fitting the plug only bypasses the immobilser, not the alarm.
Not sure about the ECU, it MAY be part of the window ECU which is known to give faults because of dry solder joints, or the multi-function unit. It is up behind the glove box as posted. And if it is doing odd things it is more likely the problem is in there, rather than the doors.
The spider was deleted when the 10AS alarm/immobiliser was fitted from 97 on so a 98 doesnt have a spider unit.
