    Stereo with no sound?

    G'day everyone!

Just the other day my alpine stereo has lost its voice! Nothing comes through on any source (Radio, CD, BT) Nothing!

Thought it was just a minor glitch and have since upgraded the firmware on the head unit and it still doesn't want to play any music.

I then unplugged the alpine unit and connected the stereo that came with the car when I purchased it.. It didn't want to play music either!

    Anyone else had this issue?

    Cheers

Use a mulitmeter to test the speaker wires at the radio plug for resistance. The speaker you test should give a little crackle when connecting the meter.

took mine recently to stereo place as the BT pioneer i installed stopped working after i did some wiring work. i suspected that whilst i was trying to put the facia back in with stereo that i pulled a wire out as there was an orange wire with bare copper floating around from the adapter.

turned out i was wrong. the connection from the main radio power loom to the adapter was faulty (the ignition power wire). he re-wired the connection and my stereo is back on after over a year with only rattles. basically, if you have a MM or one of those light up tester things, check each wire coming in with ignition on and off to see which is which, test them before and after the connections.

also, might sound silly but haven't seen it mentioned. you did check all the fuses right? including the one behind stereo?

So I have checked the speakers and there is a connection from the harness to the speakers. I have also checked the ISO-Alpine harness and there doesn't seem to be an issue with it.

Fuses are fine as the stereo powers up. My guess is that this elusive "amp" has failed... The only issue is finding it or just bypassing it completely to solve the issue.

If anyone else owns a 98 300tdi please let me know if they have found the stereo amplifier!

Be nice to know what car we were talking about. Your last post suggests a 300TDi, but no mention of Disco or Deefer. More info, please.

It may be of course that the forum title has more info, e.g. it's in the D1 section.

Not that it's a cast iron guarantee of course, but it'll do until further notice.

Not sure they had an amp unless its a top spec model, my 98 TDI se doesn't have one.
