What about something like this on your rangie? You have the side to do it on your bonnet. Not like the flush disco bonnet

Another vent on each side of the bonnet is the idea. But I don’t know how much effect it would have. Also I was looking for one that wouldn’t let rain in when parked. So RRS type vent on top of the bonnet doesn’t really appeal. I’ve been looking at HSV bonnet vents online which might work.

Having those on each side look like they would be very effective at venting hot air, which would lower the air pressure in the engine bay and so draw more cool air through the radiator, as I understand how this works, so they look excellent.
From what I can see, we want the cool air coming in through the radiator, not being rammed down from the top into the back of the engine bay.
I've decided to add side vents for the Defender to my wish list. Maybe these:

It's like people who put solar panels on an angle on their roof rack and then wonder why there is so much wind noise and their fuel consumption rises. They've just created a wind block. The panel should be flat. Not the same issue of course, but just an example of not understanding aerodynamics, I think. Mind you, I'm just a novice at this stuff.

One of these would look very bling on a Rangie.

I've actually changed my mind and decided I don't want to cut holes in the sides of the mudguards. Instead I think I might do something with the existing wing top vents.
The passenger's side already has a intake for the ventilation system, with a snow cowl over it to keep rain out.
The driver's side is a fake, but snow cowls are available for the right hand side. This would have the advantage of avoiding cutting new holes, of keeping rain out and of allowing hot air to vent on that side. They look like this:

    MUD Snow Cowl

So I know this thread started with a Disco. I wonder how a Defender cowl would look on a Disco? Is that even possible?

    Just sitting ontop

Will be painted the same colour as bonnet

Also here is a Subaru airflow diagram, basically going for same principle
