    Passenger side Door Issue!

    Hi all!

    I recently picked myself up a 1998 Discovery 1 V8i. Unfortunately the passenger side door is quite sticky.

    Seems as if the lock tab mechanism (inside the door next to the window) has worn and as a result when in resting position, sits in its locked position rather than unlocked. This means the door is unable to be opened from the outside of the vehicle, the only way to open the door now is to pull the door lock tab up while also pulling the door handle.

    Now I wouldn't be too worried about this normally, but since the vehicle is unregistered, I won't be able to pass a blue slip and get out onto the road without first fixing the issue.

    Any information or past experiences on this would be awesome.

    ALSO two more things;

    FIRST: I was notified that because the exhaust system is modified I would now need a catalytic converter installed, is this true?

    SECOND: Does anyone have a driver side seat with standard seat rails spare? (Colour does not matter) I have extended rails and they won't pass me without an engineers certificate.

    Cheers.

    1. D1 door locks have this little spring that breaks, relatively easy to fix once you've got the lock out.

    2, D1 V8's were never sold with cat converters in Oz, only the D2 model had them. Plenty of Toyota commercials and 4WD's up to around 2002 didn't have cats either.

    Awesome, thanks mate!

    And yeah, regarding the cat, that's what I thought, but the garage I went to today to get a blue slip said he wouldn't pass it without a cat installed. Tried explaining that they didn't come with one from the factory but he wouldn't budge.

    My advice would be to go to another garage as that doesn't sound right.

    So according to this mechanic's logic he would put a cat on a Model T Ford - because that didn't come fitted with one from the factory either. Surely govt regs can't be that stupid? Ok, maybe a dumb question! See if there is a website with the NSW rules and regs that you can access online and double check what you actually have to do to pass muster.

    Yeah mate he had no idea, got it all sorted... just went to a different mechanic. Think it was more that he didn't want to get pinged for passing me in case I got pulled up in the future for not having a cat, saving his own ass probably.
