Seeing that you can't actually put a CDL into "neutral" (just "lock" and "unlock") it all sounds a little sus. Putting the transfer case into neutral won't help to drive forwards either.
My guess is that you've shattered a CV joint at one front wheel and need to do some major dismantling to find it. If the rear diff is still intact you could remove both front drive flanges and the front drive shaft, engage CDL, and drive home. Or get a tow truck to a garage.
