    Tdi 300 fuel pump leak

Have just noticed a fuel leak from area at back of fuel pump on my Tdi300.
Is that a pump, or perhaps just some seals ?
Wasn't as problem yesterday, just decided to start this morning.
Anybody any experience of leaky Tdi pumps, and what it is most likely to be?
A mate with something similar just swapped pumps and never got to reason why for his leak, so is this common?
BEFORE I START TAKING WHOLE PUMP OFF.

    Injector pump, or fuel pump?

If it is the fuel pump, then the back of the fuel pump (ie. at the engine block) is only a gasket to the engine.
If you mean at the back to be towards the rear of the car(ie. LHS of the fuel pump) then there are only a couple of fuel lines.

I have a feeling that you mean injector pump.

    Pump leak on 300Tdi

I'm planning to wash it down (after the day job, at end of day), and look for where it might be coming from.
I ran my hand under and wet at rear of pump under where lines are, but will need a real clean and dry off, to locate it.
I'm supposed to go to Alice Springs Friday (1100k's), and if I can limit/reduce the leak I can then get it to a service option, as none here (Katherine NT).
I'm being madly optimistic, and hoping pipe seal or gasket at worst.............but am expecting it to be bigger than that.

Yep, but you still haven't specified if it's the actual fuel pump, easy-ish job .. cheap to replace, bit of a PITA to get it in and out due to all the injector pipe lines in the way. Fuel pump is between the injector pump and the vacuum pump, and is bolted to the block.
Two lines on it's left hand side towards the back of the car. If that's leaking, then just replace it or try tightening the two nuts where the plastic lines connect at the metal lines on the pump body.

If it's the Injector pump(mounted to the rearside of the timing case at the front of the engine, with the 4 lines coming out the back, very common issue on the 300 Tdi IP with some age on it.
I personally have zero experience with the injector pump, but have read up on the issue and some fixes can be easy, others can be hard.

Leaking fuel pump is cheap .. if it's leaking, plan for about $50 expense for a new one .. and done!(obviously you also need a fuel pump gasket for the block too).

But if you specify that it's the injector pump leaking, then you will probably get more replies from the members that have dealt with it. Do a search for Injector Pump leaking and you will get many hits.

Clarification : It is Injector mpump

Apologies for confusion, I meant Injector pump (not lift pump..........that was last months hassle)
Have determined that the leak is from rear of Injector pump, near fuel distributor section.
Could be an O ring, could be gasket, and lots of bother if I do that and then it is something else.
Have price on new (rebuilt) pump $1200-1300.
Same price if I send my pump to Darwin and wait 10 days or get sent from UK and wait a week.
labour to R&R is about 4 hours, unless I get keen and do it myself and chase up cam lock up tools to do the refit.
Might just pay some competent to R&R............just have to find somebody competent in Katherine.

Appears it could very well be the distributor head o-ring. Replaced mine earlier this year after reading up on some great how to posts by others here and watched the youtube tutorials etc. Only real special tool I had to get was a 17mm 6 point flange spanner for the injector lines. Other than that it was a cheap and successful repair. I got the 'Diesel geek' repair kit for the viton seals, line covers etc. No an overly complex job, but need to take your time doing it.

The usual first leak on the injector pump is the throttle spindle O ring then sometimes followed by the pump head seal.It is possible to fit a new seal in situ check Utube VE pump.Seal kit is available from [URL="https://4wdindustries.com.au/products/genuine-bosch-injection-pump-repair-kit-land-rover-discovery-300tdi-1467010059?variant=7025386160174"]https://4wdindustries.com.au/products/genuine-bosch-injection-pump-repair-kit-land-rover-discovery-300tdi-1467010059?variant=70253861601
You should be able to buy just the O ring from any decent Diesel workshop, try and get a Viton one, as opposed to the original green Bosch one.It will leak for quite a while before starting becomes difficult.

Re replace O ring on Injector pump

You are probably right about O ring, but I have nil time before depart for Alice, so sending D1 on truck to Alice with new parts to be fitted there.
Murphy's law strikes again, but it could have started leaking half way to Alice and that would have been worse I expect.
