All the V8's are right hand thread. They can be a bugger to get off.
I know this topic has been covered but i cant find an answer.
It seems to me on the D1 by all accounts its a reverse thread to remove the fan.
However the replacement engine i put in had this water pump.

Clearly thats a normal thread. So i tried to remove my viscous fan to fit it to this pump and no joy. Cant get the bugger off.
Did they change the water pump threads during the D1 by any chance? My old engine was a 1994 build and the replacement engine is a 1997 build.

It doesn't leak oil, Its sweating power
Have a good look at the picture mate. That one is lefty loosy.
And i just noticed over here https://4wdindustries.com.au/product...p38-stc4378-oe they sell pumps for 1995 onwards??
Here's a picture off the Land Rover service tool LRT12-094. The listed tool for removing the fan. 36mm R/H thread. The water pumps changed when LR went from v belt to multi ribbed belt. The pump 4wd industries is for a 95 model year. It should say from chassis number MA onwards. You can get a MA chassis numbered car that was built in 94![]()

Ok cracked it and decided to make my own 36 mill spanner for the job.

Bwahahahahha 300 mm long 8 mm wide steel as the spanner bit and a few feet of 3mm steel pipe.
Now im ready to put some load onto the bugger.
Only $29.95 at your local tool shop - not worth the hassle of making it.

If there is any doubt in which direction to undo a viscous hub, then loosen the hub in the same direction the fan travels
No hassle what so ever. Just some steel lying around in the shed from other projects. Wasted 4 rods and 1/2 of a 1mm cutting disk.
I enjoy welding though so do it for fun atleast a few times a week.
My bar worked a treat. Got it off in no time. And thankyou everyone for convincing me anticlockwise was the correct way.
I really did put some force into that bugger and could not budge it.
That home made spanner. Yup leverage is always your friend.
I replaced mine not so long ago. Had some fun too. Strong language is recommended. Does not make getting it undone any easier, but makes you feel better.
