Same gasket for both. Yes a no hole is thickest as is the 4 hole , depends who is selling them.
    3 hole is 1.5 mm and no hole/ 4 hole is 1.69mm.

    Thermite!

Dave, I like your imagination, the hole in the gasket as per photo will never see compression/combustion pressures. The triangular hole is on the other side of the fire ring from the combustion chamber.

I remembered I had another head that was pulled off a scrap engine down in the bottom shed. Brought it back and it looked better than the one I pulled off. Took them both to town last Tuesday and got the engine rebuilder to look at them. He agreed the salvaged head was the better one so took 6 thou off it and did the valves and swapped them over for me. Picked it up today. Looks good so far.

Heads bolted down with new bolts and gaskets to 200 TDI specs.
Now the 300TDI specs call for an extra 20 degrees on the 12mm bolts.
    Any idea why?
if its because of extra turbo boost perhaps I should give it the extra as I am running a 300TDI Turbo.

Nope. Those holes are never used. The extra coolant holes are under the 1/4 intake ports. The original design only has them under the 4 exhaust ports plus the restricted ports between each set of push rods. It was a change that made no sense.

    Going through some old threads.
Manic started one on May 18 2012 200TDI Head Replacement.
In post 2 Isuzurover said to be sure and use the 300 TDI head torque specs and give it the extra 20 degrees. So Manic did that.
No one else seems to recommend it.

I think any new heads are now the tgv ones, don't think Land Rover make them any more, so it's more a case of us not using their holes than adding ones that are not needed,

That's what I have been told, if I'm wrong I'm happy to be corrected

You can get new 300tdi heads with and without the extra holes. They serve no purpose.

I asked Turner Engineering in the UK this question.
They just replied that their rebuild section does tighten 200 TDI heads to the same degree as the 300 TDI.
I will remove the rocker cover and give the 12 mm bolts the extra 20 degrees later in the week.
