    Rear Corner Panels

    Hi Blokes,
I was having a discussion this morning with a mate of mine who is a big Rover fan and owns a D1 3 door, he happened to mention in passing conversation that he was a bit unsure about doing any work to the rear corner panels to his Disco as they were fiberglass or plastic, I tried to correct him on that point saying that they were in fact alloy because I had a D1 myself and was sure on this point, anyway he would not have a bar of it, so please can anyone clarify this for me.
He also claimed that the black sill strips are fiberglass as well, is this true as well? because I reckon that they are some sort of poly or plastic material.
    Regards:-
    Patrick M.

Is he thinking about the little corner pieces for the bumper - the ones with the reflector in it? If not, he must mean the actual rear quarter panel - part number for right side is MWC6805. I can assure you they are aluminium/alloy. I have two brand new ones sitting in my shed.

I am talking about the rear pieces that have the tail lights mounted into them and are on each corner at the rear. Not the bumper corners. I'm not sure of the proper description so I refrained from referring to them as quarter panels because in the workshop manual the quarter panels are the actual the panel that start at the door and extend to the rear of the car and has the rear side window in it. The panels that I am referring to are the actual corners pieces which are separate items and are fixed to the ends of the quarter panels.

Rear 1/4 panels and corners are alloy and sills are a type of poly , no fibre glass on any rovers.

I checked them out and they are the same thickness as the side panels only 1 or 1.5 millimeters thick if that.
If it was fiberglass it would be at least twice that thickness I would have thought.
Anyway thanks blokes I was pretty sure they were alloy, now I know positively.

From memory, all body panels are aluminium, just the roof is metal.

I have new old stock original 2 door skins, a guard, a rear quarter panel and two corners sitting in my shed and they are all aluminium (or perhaps an alloy?). The roof is steel as is attested by the number of discos with rust around the alpine windows.

Disco - alloy bonnet, steel roof. RRC - alloy roof, steel bonnet. IIRC
