For death wobbles, also chack wheel bearings.
Bearing may not make noise, but if just a little loose, can cause some steering wobble too.
Far easier than checking and redoing swivel preload.

Alternatively, it could be a recoed or new speedo.

Not long after I got my D1, my major gripe was that the odometer and trip meter numbers were unreadable .. looked like the white paint on the number had worn/faded.

So I got an entire new instrument cluster. Speedo only has low 100's on the clock .. so how hard would it be for me to sell my 390K klm D1 with only low 100's on the clock!
I'd never do that(seriously, not in my philosophical programming to do so).
In the end, once I got my speedo out, it was just a matter of using a cotton tip with some alcohol to clean up the number anyhow. Instrument cluster I bought sits in shed taking up valuable space.

Thanks Arthur, pretty sure this is her first time round! One elderly owner who wasn’t in great shape, so only driving it couple of 100 ks a year to the shops- serviced every year by LR port Macquarie with mileage stamps. Will check the wheel bearings ASAP don’t think they will have been done ever so might just replace them all anyway.

Cheers Val, the connector has black surround and goes through the firewall, assuming cruise control possibly as that’s the only thing on it that doesn’t work

quite possibly. the yellow tubing is obvious but can't help you with that one. my 300tdi 96 version doesn't have either cruise nor airbags.

can you find where the female end is? is there an empty slots somewhere? is that the full length of the cable?

300TDI or V8?

It’s a v8 es spec. Cable is just neatly folded in there probably reaches about as far as the coolant tank and nothing to connect it to that I can see!
