This is an old chestnut. Dont waste yr time lookng for it.
Australian 300 TDi never had a spider - only bypass wiring where it was normally located - under the radio unit.
Dont waste your time - its a furphy.
Simply locate the green ECU under the pax side and connect pin 10 to 11.It has 2 connectors C274 and C225.
Consult yr wiring diagram for the pinouts.
The immobiliser simply opens pin 10 and 11 and then closes them for start.
    1998 D1 in showroom condition, 1999 D2 TD5 with everything, 2000 P38 showroom condition.

1992 RRC sold and now pranged.

My 1996 300tdi D1 certainly does have a spider. I have had it out and repaired it - they get a couple of dry solders that need resoldering. Fixed that and never had a problem with it since. You may wish to check your facts.

early d1's didnt have the spider.

from memory the spider was fitted with one of the optional extras on early vehicles and was standard on later ones.

If I had to guess I'd go with it being standard in late 93/early 94 models.

    Ok must be some outliers.
I have owned the following 300TDi VINS MA,WA and VA. years 95 thru 98
None of them had spiders - they have the loom but have factory bypass plugs fitted as standard.
    Immobilisation by module Z163.

Mine has the 10as alarm module and the spider, so they are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

    Cheers,
    Tom.

Tom - can you make your post a bit more useful for others - list your VIN, manufacture date (APR96??), and specification i.e. Standard TDi wagon or ES model.
