Hey all,
So I have just filled up ps fluid after I removed the reservoir and decided to start turning the wheels without lifting the wheels off the ground...(I know, I'm a genius)
Anyway turning the steering wheel to the right I heard it go snap. Now the steering wheel turns loose in any direction. The column still turns all the way to the steering box input.
Can the input be replaced or do I have to get a new steering box? Thanks for all your help in advance, I'm off to super cheap to buy a floor jack....
pics, vids if youcan
you could have just stripped out the ally part of the steering column...
be thankful it happened while you were stationary not driving.
If its in the steering box and you havent just popped the bolt to the last UJ on the input splines of the steering box then most likely its fractured the input behind the bearing at a machining point...
IVe seen it a couple of times but not first hand in a landy power steering box.

Thanks for the quick replies, attached is hopefully a video of where it is broken.
That looks to me like the coupling onto the box is missing a bolt - you may have removed it, and the spline in the coupling is stripped.

now for the painstaking bit..
get in there with a small wire brush and scour the splines on the box. Slide a large washer down it first to protect the wiper side of the seal..
when you fit up the new one use a light duty anti seize on the spline and loctite 243 on the securing bolt.
