    D1 member introducing myself

    Hi All

Just thought I'd introduce myself. I am the owner of the white D1 in the picture (I hope) I have attached.

Bought in May last year and converted to manual from my parts car, it has done just on 110ks. I have always wanted one, I cannot believe the economy! 12 LPH towing the caravan.

The car is as close to as good as you'd find one in my estimation and is often a talking point when we go places which has surprised me as I would have thought most would see it as "just another white 4X4". We are from Mirboo North in South Gippsland and are new members of the Victorian Land Rover Owners Club. Not sure what we are going to get out of club membership yet as it wears road tyres and is really just for towing the van.

Welcome to AULRO (and LROC). Looks like a nice D1 with a few sensible accessories. You will find they are quite capable in the bush with a good set of all terrains (I like BFG's) and comfortable on the road. D1's have a couple of weaknesses, the cooling system needs to be kept up to scratch (the factory temp gauge is useless; fit an Engine saver or similar), and the timing belt should be changed every 80,000 km. If you have service records check it has been done, if not, get it done soon. Otherwise they are a good, simple, reliable 4wd that will get you most places you want to go, just not quite as quickly as some newer ones, but then the service costs are a lot less, too, and they are not devaluing at the moment. If you are new to 4wding I would suggest doing a training course with LROC which will give you an insight into what the car can do as well as boost you confidence.
Great to see another D1 on the road.
    Cheers,
    Woolly.
