Disco1, std BFG MT KM3 fitment and width issues

I've just had 235/70-16 (standard size) BFG MT KM3 tyres fitted all round to my 95 3dr.

Now these are a much wider tyre than what was on it.

The spare tyre is on the bodywork and the tyre fitter let me know that the front PS tyre rubs on the front radius arm at full lock.

Has everyone else found the same with this tyre? I assume I can space the spare tyre a bit, but the fitter said the front doesn't have steering stop bolts to adjust out.
    Cheers

Probably no help, but mine has 265/75 Maxxis 764s. Never hits on full lock, but has been known to hit the bodywork on the rear sometimes. Are the rims original offset?

Thanks Tins, thats really interesting. Yes, they're just standard factory rims as far as I know. Both of my Disco1's have the same style of rims. I haven't got a picture with the BFG MT's yet.

That's really interesting Slunnie. Mine has the same sized tyres and no issues at all.

Maybe there was a difference with early D1 mags?

Is it the lugs on the side of the tyre hitting? Throw a measuring tape across them - they might be wider than they say on the label?

Just measuring the tyres. The spare is a steel rim, 235/70-16 BFG MT KM3 tyre and it measures 210 across the treadface (ie, the parts that hit the road) and across the tyre is just a fraction off 255mm

They're a wide tyre! I suspect the additional width is from the side lugs, and so the widest part is also just down from the treadface rather than the bag of the tyre.

Oh well, I guess that explains a few things!

I kid you not, I did them all in Paint. I import a picture into Paint and then zoom in really really close and pixelate them by picking up a base colour for each part and using that throughout. It is literally done with pixels but you can use the various tools to speed up the process a bit. Body highlights like panel joins and white/white edges are then just highlighted with black to make them stand out. I've used wheel pictures because I thought the result was better. They take ages to do and it is a bit mind numbing, but they're cool when done.

Have you had a wheel alignment lately?
The steer rods are pretty flimsy and it doesn't take much to pick up a bend. If you bend the tie rod (the one behind the diff) it causes toe out and that brings the back edge of the tyres closer to the radius arms.
I've got a similar size tyre and had scrubbing issues on the radius arms when I first fitted them. Pretty shortly after, I did the rod ends. When I was doing the rod ends, I realised the bars were a little bent so i straightened them, got an alignment and the scrubbing was fixed.

Thanks, I'll check that out. It didn't have an alignment, when they checked it they said the old tyres had worn well so the alignment was fine as it is. I'll get under an have a look. The lift in it may potentially also affect things I'm guessing.
