    AC compressor finished?

    Hi

I am trying to establish of the AC COmpressor on my disco is finished. I do know both the AC fans have stopped working, but I was running the AC before i realised this happend.

It was a very hot day, and the 300tdi was labouring very badly while the AC was running, muchmore than it used to. Now when I turn the AC on to test it, the engine idle drops more than it used to as well.

Anyhow, I was wondering howyou can troubleshoot the basic setup without going to the AC guys. I do have access to another compressor, but again its off an old car.

    ANy thoughts?

    Thanks

I've just gone through the Aircon stuff myself. Have you got a rave manual? It talks you through all the common faults and how to fix them.

If your condensor fans stopped working make sure you check that there is power getting to them. I replaced mine as they were stuffed with some generic 10 inch units. Makes a difference.

If your idle drops more than it should, your compressor might be on the way out and the car is struggling to turn it

Try trouble shooting with rave first.

thanks, i will check the RAVE. I feel like the compressor was on the way out, as the AC was making the car hot on my last trip

Make sure the condenser fans are working too - my car was getting very hot without them. Since I’ve put new ones in it dropped temps considerably. A new radiator sorted all my cooling probs out though.
