    Rear Disc Caliper overhaul

    Hi

I have bene looking for for a caliper overhaul kit on ebay and the web from the local australian places. i noticed that that some caliper kits work on the front and rear. My Disco has solid front and rear discs.

My question is, if the kit is the same for front and back, is the piston also the same diameter. I knwo the fron has 4 pistons per caliper and the rear 2 pistons.

Yeah, I think so ... I've seen parts listings that describe the kits as suitable for "one front, or both rear calipers"

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

The pistons are different between back and front. From memory ( I rebuilt all my calipers about 4-5 years ago) the pistons might be shorter in the back caliper. Seals and retainers are the same though.

Biggest problem with the job is the dust seal retainers. Use OEM if you can and look after the ones you pull out, you might need to re-use some of them.

I used a thin smear of RUBBER grease assembling the callipers (on the bores, seals and pistons) I've done in the past, keeps the pistons shiny for a very long time.
