Hire Trailer Towing Capacity for Discovery 1 V8
Hello All,
Would it require a 3.5 tonne rated car trailer to legally tow a Discovery 1 vehicle fitted with a V8 petrol motor?
I am aware that the Series III 109 requires a 3.5 tonne trailer to tow it legally.
Back in 2019 when I needed to hire a 3.5 tonne trailer I had to drive from Bundaberg to Gympie to just to pick one up Thankfully, now there is a new hire mob located close to my end of town. It is located just outside of being in the same suburb as me. No more trips to Gympie just to pick up a 3.5 tonne hire trailer! Hooray! :0)
Kind regards
Lionel

As long as the trailer has proper (not override) brakes and the tow vehicle can operate them, then you should be legal.

The latest U-Haul car carriers are rated for 3.5 tonne with over-ride brakes. They had to get special type approval for the USA supplied electric over-ride system.

You can also get 2.8T, 3.0T, and 3.2T car trailers that would have a high enough load capacity to carry a D1.
