Can you even mount a transfer case onto that one?
    Cheers

Possibly some internals are the same but really not worth the effort.

I'm not sure if this helps or not: About 8 years ago I was hunting for a 4HP22 for my D2. Sure, different, but not by much. I found a cheap one from a P38. I emailed Dave Ashcroft re viability of swapping outputs. He said it could bee done, but considered it would be uneconomic to do so. Now, a P38 is far closer to a Disco than a BMW is. However, it's been some time since, and maybe the BM box isn't so different.
Not trying to put you off, just suggesting that maybe it's not as straightforward as you would hope.

A 95 BMW 325 E36 had a 5 speed electronic box, if the box you have is a hydraulic ZF 4hp22 it might be out of an 85 model E30.

If this is the case you will need to completely disassemble the box to swap both the output shaft and extension housing as well as the bell housing.

You'd be better off using the best hard parts from both boxes and giving it an overhaul with new clutches, O rings, bushes, teflon input seals, serviced torque converter etc, if the 300 Tdi is a keeper.
