No wrong answer. A D1 with a LS or a Barra or a top hatted 4.6 or an M57, or an N56 for that matter, would great, but it won't be a mint 3 door.

    I missed that.

If its a near mint 3 door, then I personally wouldn't change it as thats where the value is in the 3drs. Most forecast these going up in value over the long term. Although there are enough 3drs around, there isn't a lot of unmolested good 3drs around - they were mostly used as cheap toys, cut for big tyres and abused. It would be a real shame to change up a good one like that.

If it already has cut guards etc, then its just a play toy, go nuts with it.
    Cheers

The video I've seen of it on the beach, I'm not sure why it's not on its roof.

Not a fan of Ford powered Landies, but I'd make an exception for that one
420hp and 990 Nm. Neat job too. You'd really want better brakes though

Given the lack of interest in Discos these days I'm not sure about trying to keep it all original.
She didn't have any rust and is straight.

Interior is showing her age like me.
Probably put a cam in her

If a larger capacity is required , i would take the time to research what the American D1 96 -98 has .

It is call a 4.0 but is same capacity as 3.9 it is not the cross bolt motor that we know as a 4.0 .

It does not used a distributor but uses the GEMS system like the P38a 4.0 and 4.6 that we got here .

It is capable of tuning both ignition and fuel .

The other thing to do if in no hurry would be to learn the engine number prefixes and spend some time at picka part type wreckers .
That sounds very interesting I'll look into it, but I'll be looking at a cam as you say

I have a D1 which is on the market , its in the cars for sale section as of yesterday, suitable for wrecking or restoring, running gear is perfect, when I first built the car I started with a brand new crate motor, 4.6, sent it straight to Orger engines , ridge lined, better rings and pistons, balanced , custom ground cam. no expense spared and all receipts available
Rebuilt Transfer case, Eaton trutrac front and rear, superior engineering super flex arms front and rear, dislocation cones and the list goes on
Buy that and use the bits to make a cheap and very good 4wd
Discovery 1 4.6, true trac front and rear, superior engineering arms, old tourer now bush toy
Discovery 4 3.0 HSE MY13 ECB Bull bar, winch, spot lights, aux fuel tank, Kaymar rear bar, duel wheel carriers, 18 tuff ant wheels 265/65/18 BFG KO2's for play

    Go on John, do it.

Just what you need, a little car project, I'm sure it would be all very straightforward 🤪
