						Hello All,
Are parts such as the headlight/indicator/wiper stalk on a 1998 Discovery interchangeable with earlier years Discovery 1's?
Also, are the cruise control switches in a 1998 Discovery interchangeable with earlier years Discovery 1's?
If a vehicle was fitted with cruise control - where would the cruise control module be located? I want to check to see if the cruise control system is still wherever it should be.
BTW - does the air bag in the steering wheel have to come off to remove the indicator/headlight/wiper and cruise control switches?
Kind regards
Lionel

						Hello Tins,
According to a website it mentions that the Series 1 Discovery was in production between 1989–1998
Mine is a 1998 model. Not sure of the month of manufacture - I have to track that plate down,
As far as possible parts goes - how far down towards say 1994 would parts still be interchangeable with my 1998 Discovery 1 were the parts like indicator/lights/wiper stalks cruise control switches the same?
Or was there the equivalent of a Series Land Rover Suffix change where Land Rover made little tweaks within the same 'Series' that restricts interchangeability? IF so what years have the most compatibility and interchangeability to a 1998 Discovery 1. What were they called "Facelifts?"
Armed with this insider information I can limit my quest for tracking down missing parts that fit properly
Kind regards
Lionel
There was certainly quite a facelift, in 94, I believe. Mine is the 94, facelift. Pretty sure my controls would be the same as the 98. The earlier cars, with the 200 TDi, I don't know. Mine doesn't have cruise, so I can't help you there.

SupporterA lot of, if not all, those types of parts on your model type(ie. update) Disco is the same or similar to the Disco 2 parts.
cruise control, wiper/headlight switches, dash fascia, binnacle switches ... etc a lot of them are D1-D2 compatible, rather than pre - post update Disco 1.
I can't recall exactly, but I think the steering wheels are not compatible D1 to D2 because splines or some parts there don't fully match up(maybe indicator cancel doodad??)
But the steering cover is the same if you have airbag D1(not the non airbag model tho)
Many parts on the dash fascia can be swapped D1-D2 but some switches are totally different. Ashtray and coin tray same, fascia itself is the same, but slightly different colour.
early to late D1 ... most of those types of parts were incompatible

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

Yep. D2 is a sort of CAN-BUS arrangement, with the various modules controlling everything. On the face of it they look the same, but not even the window switches are interchangeable.
Yep, but the instrument cluster is totally different, despite being almost identical to look at. Modules again.
AFAIK there were no 3 door facelift D1s. Sadly, because the make great ute projects but I couldn't bring myself cut one up. If they were more common.....

						Hello All,
My 1998 Discovery 1 has a switch unit hanging by three wires that has toggle buttons for + (Plus) and - (minus), I figure this is for a cruise control. Photograph to follow in next post.
Is there a cruise control off/on/set/restore switch unit that is associated with the cruise control on the Discovery 1s? If so, where is it located and what does it look like? Presumably my car did once have a functioning cruise control that someone liberated from the car.
Could someone with a Discovery 1 from 1994 to 1998 please take a photograph of your cruise control switches. and post it up on this thread? Thank you in advance.
I am attempting to identify and track down what has become missing in action, so that I can get some parts to replace them with.
All assistance would be most greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
Lionel

						Hello Slunnie,
A very nice looking unit you have there Slunnie.
Yes, I should have elaborated or specified more exactly what content displayed within the requested photographs.
Hopefully the next series of my photographs will pinpoint my areas of interest.
Stay tuned!
