    Geez guys,

The sharp edges can be "softened" with some plate, a MIG and decent angle grinder.

I would gladly give up a little approach angle to have a winch and recovery points on my '98 TDi.

    Bloody SRS A/B setup.

My ARB looks nice, but is bloody useless as a basis for winching/snatching.

Anyone got a few pics of a solution?

    Cheers

There was a vendor at the Wandin show displaying nice tubed winch bars for Discos. He's a local here in Melbourne who also does service and accessories for Landies. Referred to me by njz.
I wish i had taken a photo of his bar on the Disco. I was in a bit of a hurry so didn't manage to didn't get prices from him either.
I don't want to mention the business name on here for fear of breaking the advertising rules.
I might go down and see him next week and get some prices and photos.

They were a bit similar to these ones
    Tube Bullbar

Not my thing though - I'd prefer a cut down bar made from plate steel and don't need a winch mount.

I have a matching disco with alloy bar and winch, it uses a steel cradle to hold the winch which the bar attaches to. Since the airbag is only SRS i'm not worried if the bar isnt really compatible but being alloy it should be ok.

Could you PM me the details of that tube bar you are talking about as that is very close to what I would like to get.

    Cheers

Well I don't see any harm in posting it up as he's already is in the Recommended Supplier Section. Mods can censor it if they want.

    Sounds great!

Any chance of a few pics.? Particularly of the chassis mounts!

I am in Frankston, but would be happy to travel for a look at the real thing.

Going back to the original posting of the home made winch bumper. I hope you don't mind a bit of critism about the two D rings for recovery points. The angle of the pull combined with rather small securing bolts looks like a weakest point in the design.
I can fore see the two inward bolts being ripped out under load. Are they 13mm bolts?
The saddle securing the D rings also looks a bit flimsey for my taste.

The orange Bumper by comparison is from a rail raod locomotive and has been modified to fit a Land Rover Discovery......... I think!

    Streaky.
The rings are rated at 10,000lbs. 12mm dia. bolts.

LOL! Nah, it was definately built from the ground up for the Disco.

Although, the guy may have had a locomotive bull-bar in mind.
