series 1 steel wheels/sunraysia's/rims

hi everyone,

I have a small dilemma

I want to fit 16x8 steel wheels to my series 1 disco, something like a steel sunraysia wheel. Now that would seem pretty simple BUT I have spoken with three tyre shops today and got three dfferent answers ranging from 'mate you cant get that size for the disco' where the other two shops gave me prices but they were $135 and $145 each

so I rang the expert, JC at Kingston, and he is sussing things out for me, but until I hear back from him, can anyone who has fitted 16 inch steel sunraysia style wheels to their D1, please reply.

I would like to know where they got them from, how much were they and what offset are they. If you have a pic, that would be great as well

My ultimate goal is to increase track about an inch each side, cut the guards and then fit flares over each wheel arch.

I am running 245/75/16 STT's at the moment but will Mc Upsize them in the near future to 33's or equivalent (maybe 255/85/16's) when I have the cash for 4.11's in a locker

any help appreciated

A D1 is just a classic rangie in discoveries body work so yes you can get 16x8 sunny style rims for them. My mate has them on his rangie but he is running 35" simexs. Here is a pic of them anyway. Don't know where he got them.

I don't run these myself but i priced them a few months ago about $140.I think 1" offset is what you need.Cheers Brett

I have 16 x 8 rims on my disco running 35 x 10.5 pede's. The rims are dynamic (chris hummer aka Mr Simex is the wholesaler). Try pro comp. Alan McMullen will have them and can get them to you for a reasonable price

Just get a set of Disco Steel rims flipped (would be the cheapest way to widen the track) or a set of those Rims Hiline has on his 130 from AMV in Ringwood.

flipping disco rims is no longer as cost effective as it used to be. The rims will cost about $50 each to buy. It will then cost you about $60 to get the centres cut and re welded. The steel is very soft and buckles easily.
You should be able to get a brand new rim in the size you want for around $110 each.

the best price I have so far is $120 each for a 16x7 sunraysia style black rim....

Try $45 dollars each flipped and welded , I just had 5 disco rims done 80mm back space

All up buying the rims and then getting them flipped cost me $300 for 5 wheels all up

That's a good price. I had the offset on my rims changed about 6 years ago and I think it was around $50 then, so allowing for inflation I would of expected it to cost around $60 now.
