    Camel Cutting ?

Hi Guys , I know i will have to camel cut the rear guards for the bigger wheels. But will i have to cut the front guards as well ?

when the disco was standard height the big tyres touched the plastic sills but the sills stick out half an inch from the guard it self.

You shouldnt need to but i have heard you can add some thick washers to the front radius arms to move the diff forward slightly to clear large tyres, i think this would only be required if using offset rims.

    Hi Mick,
My 94 4dr disco Update dash had to have 2" spring lift and I folded up the lip on the inside of the front and rear guards and have the front pushed out slightly.
When off road the lip would slice the sides of the tyre when articulating off road. My current Disco 95 tdi 300 2dr has no problems just has 2" king springs HD.
I am running 245/70R16 Pirelli Scorpion AT on 16 x 8 Performance alloys, not sure off offset. Have also had these on a Range 4dr 2" lift also and had to lip rear guards. Best bet is to slowly articulate axles and see wher things go two ramps is a good start. I am looking at going to 255-265/75R16 and will have to cut gards and fit flares but have not bitten the bullet yet. Still tring to find a nice flare to still keep an original look.
    Hope this helps Cheers Allan

since fitting my BFG MT's 235/85-16 the only contact with the body on articulation has been the folded lip, behind the wheel arch section of the back doors ... was quickly fixed with a hammer.

I've done the cut and have a sagged 2" lift.

Front guards are still std. ... Steering stops will need adjustment too.

I've also noticed that with my spare (full tread/normal pressure) it just slides over the rear bumper and leaves a nice contact patch ... I see it as extra help for the rear door hinges when the going gets rough.

Depends on how big the tyres are, mine are the same as Sschmez but AT's and I dont get any probs with the front but had to cut the rears.

Mine rub on the radius arms on full lock but it's not really a problem and I have a small shiny spot inside the guard.

With the tyres off the series three i think you will need to cut the gaurds front and back but if you use standard disco rims and stick to no wider than 9.5" you should only need to cut the rear.Cheers Brett

I run 255/86R16 (33.2") tyres on my disco and had to cut the rear of the front guards.
I use wolf rims and this gives slightly more offset so I also had to fold the inside lip of the guards up, otherwise it would cut into the side of the tyres.

Also note, a tdi disco doesn't have the right gearing to run these tyres, I have changed to defender high range transfer gears.
