Thread: D1 banging from rear

A knocking/banging has started from underneath at the rear of my D1. If the exhaust was on that side, and loose, it would sound like that.

Had a look under there and pushed and pulled everything I could see but nothing felt loose.

What should I be looking for, does anyone know?

A badly worn rubber some where around the rear suspension.
Possibly anti roll bar?

As Ron says, if it is not heavy enough to be the ball joint the most likely is the sway bar links. If these are the same as the 110, and I think they are, one end is rubber (which may have disappeared) but the other is like a tie rod end, and when this develops slack, becomes very noisy.

check the end caps on the bumber if losse they can create a drumming sound as the hit up on the body work

My D1 had a clunk sound found that the bottom rubber bush on the drivers side shock had gone but as there are two on each side of the mount and when parked the shock was pushing down on the top one and did not move when I grabed it. Found when i let the diff down from jack that it fell to the lock nut then the shock pushed down again moved about 5mm. New rubber from Supa cheap and all is quiet.
But as every one has said there are a lot of other rubber bushes to look at and check Just check they are not under load when you are checking as they may not move.
