    First 4x4, 1993 Disco

    Hi everyone,

before writing this i have gone through trying to find relevant threads about these problems so please forgive me if theyre repeats!

    I have just bought my first 4x4, a 1993 v8i disco 3dr auto

Since purchasing it i have noticed a few "quirks" which i would appreciate if somone could explain them to me.

Firstly, the lack of a glove box? There is just a panel there where one should be, are seperate parts of the dash available to give the car a glove box?

Secondly, when I use an indicator the trailer light flashes either once, twice, thrice or 4 times and stops, the indicators continue to work even though the light isnt flashing. The proper indicator light never works.

Thirdly, I have just had the disc brake pads replaced, now everytime i hit the brake the brake warning light comes on. Is there any other use for the light except to tell me there are no brake pads left? (from the manual)

    Fourthly (and the most worrying).
The disco is leaning quite a ways to the right hand side of the car. It is at the stage as if the left hand side is up on a verge. Is this typical of the discos and is it just a spring replacement?

Thankyou in advance to anyone that replies!

    Ben.

I also have a 93 Disco.Where the glove box looks like it should be, is actually where the stuff for the air con is.Your trailor lights flashing maybe something wrong with your wires somewhere. And if your indicator lights dont work means that your flasher unit might be stuffed.I just did mine on the weekend.Indicators worked but had no light on the dash. The unit is under the dash on the drivers side.
As for your brake light coming on im not to sure.Have you checked to see if you have enough brake fluid? Your brake pad indicator may have come loose. As for the leaning, alot of the Discos tend to lean to the right. There was a thread on it not long ago.Your springs may also be sagging. It doesnt cost much to get a new set anyway. That way you can also get a bit of a spring lift! Hope this helps.

    nope, no glove box.

your problems with the flasher lights could be either a loose bulb, a dying flasher , a dying selector (stalk switch) or a wiring problem and don't forget the normal landrover earthing problems.

the brake light issue is either some idiot has frelled the fitting of the brake warning wire and its shorting when you hit the brakes or your low on brake fluid (they may have sucked too much out as part of the process) and the low level sensor is triggering. If the brakes are not pulling you up squarely or arent heating up evenly when you brake sharply then it the brake pressure differential switch doing its thing.

The lean is just spring sag. replace them... (I like the 93 discos with a 2 inch spring lift and 7.50R16sized LT rubber)

As said there is no glovebox but do you have the cubby box on the central console. When new they were an option - either a soft vinyl one or a hard plastic one that works like a cubby box on most cars - that is essentially the glovebox.

The indicators still work 100% of the time, but the trailer light flashes instead of the indicator light. The trailer light flashes for about 4 or 5 flashes and then stops, but the relay is still ticking and the indicators still run.

my centre console is a tray of sorts, not a typical centre console "hole".

typically how much does it cost to get the springs fitted? I have quoted one place which is $750 fitted with 2 inch lift kit. Or you can pay the same $750 and not get the 2 inches.

the suspension leaks as well but the car is used ONLY for off road.

I am by no means a mechanic and dont understand what is actually involved in replacing springs. What spring set am I looking for if I buy on ebay?

    Thanks guys

    Ben.

Check to see if your right swivel hub is leaking onto the brake disc this will cause it to pull to the left.I would check all the wires on the brake pads for brake light coming on.Cheers Brett
