    97 disco gear selection

    Hi All
Last couple of days my disco seems to have locked in the shift gate when coming out of 5th. It seems to me that its either the ball on the bottom or the bush the roll pins fit into. Can all this be accessed through the floor and am I on the right track.
    cheers

Yes, you can access from inside.

It's a while since I have been there. Try un-clipping the boot over the gear lever 1st, taking care not break the plastic legs that clip into the transmission console.

If that doesn't provide enough access you will have to remove the console.

To do that you need to remove the clevis pin and release the park brake cable from the lever.
Just make sure you have someone on hand to assist with sticking the park brake cable back in place caue it's a real PITA trying to put the park brake assembly back together on your own.

Thanks for the add info, I can hear an unussual click (bit like a detent ball clicking in place) as I move the shift lever across into the 5th/reverse gate. Will try and get it on a hoist in the very near future.
    cheers
