well as the title suggests, i went out last night and when i got in the car to go home the pedal went to the floor and i had no brakes (handbrake works though) well i was limping home and about halfway there it started making a clunking noise but i kept going as it was on about 1k to go and just b4 i got home the front brakes grabbed for a second and then let go and the clunking noise stopped so today i took the front left wheel off and i cant see anything wrong, but when i pulled over and had a look on the way home that side was leaking fluid, so i have no idea whats broke! i was hoping it would be staring me in the face(probably is lol), so what do you guys think is the problem?
thanks in advance
matt
Matt maybe take the right one off as well. You could have dropped or lost a brake pad.Check both sides to see where the fluid is leaking from. Are your pads low? If so maybe the piston has pushed out to far and you lost fluid.Just things to check.Hope you find the problem.
anyone else have any ideas
A assume there is very little or no brake fluid left in the reservoir?
The clunking noise kind of tells me a problem with the pads and or caliper assembly?
You need to get under the vehicle and look at the brakes from the 'inside' to see where the leak is coming from.
Did you have any work done on the brakes in recent times?
You really need to get in close and personal with your brake assemblies and have a good visual check all around.
The left side? Is leaking in the wheel area or onto the guard and then onto the radius arm? If it is it could be leaking from the rear brake pressure regulating valve which is located on the left hand wheel arch.
lhs caliper had seized the pistons so now i am looking for a new caliper if anyone has one send me a pm
Make sure all caliper bolts are in place.
I lost one once, and when I reversed, the caliper would swing away, off the disc, and make a clunking noise. Drive forwards, and the caliper would swing back down again, sometimes.
it was all nice and tight, just a buggerd caliper and the price i got to fix the caliper was crazy and thats after i took it off and brought it to them !!!!
