I asked this question before but it didn't get a full answer...maybe I didn't make it plain enough but you would have had to have been aware of this to safely remove the airbags

?? if the relevant fuse is removed... and the time allowed for the capacitors to "power-down"......are the airbags then disabled ??

Thanks Dave, my understanding from talking to some LR wreckers is that the D1 airbags rarely deploy, but it would be great if I could get a copy of the documentation that you have that says they can be removed legally.

Are you able to send a copy of this to me as I am concerned by the implications of my D1 having airbags and a body lift and in hindsight would prefer to have a vehice without them.

The problem with all of this airbags are the be all and end all of the safe existance of life is that :

a. how many people with serious head and neck injuries are from vehicals that had airbags that didnt deploy?
b. how many facial injuries and neck injuries are caused by airbags?
c. nobody asked if it was to be driven on the road or if it was a paddock bomb or comp rig with 5 point harness and roll cage, they just assumed that he was a young idiot who wanted to kill his passanger.

Ive said it before and I will say it again, Airbags are a secondary restraint system that rarely works how it is intended to due to you cant perfectly replicate the situations that they are tested in.

They do have their place and in a small percentage of incidence where they do work and they do perform how they are meant to you will never know if they really saved the person/s involved or not as you will never fully replicate the exact situation again......hopefully....

This whole debate is a mute point.

It is much like having a conversation with a Prius owner, even knowing they are wrong there are still some that will argue the point.

worse, they give bad drivers a sense of invulnerability.

solution: remove drivers side airbag and fit a 12" spike to the steering wheel boss.

For those drivers unmoved by the threat of impalement, ban comprehensive car insurance

The method of removal was disconnect battery completely, remove fuses and be very very careful.
It worked for me, but don't take my word as gospel

I think you have started somthing you probably would not have thought to have gone this far.


I have a D1 disco with a passenger air bag....we do many serious 4wding trip...weekends away and all over Aus. I have never had a problem with not having a jesus handle on the dash...I do have a handle above the door which I do use. I hope this is helpful

If you can answer a persons technical question objectively with ACTUAL knowledge (not just from the net) then you should, otherwise keep your opinion to your self unless the user has sought ADVICE on the matter.
