mine leaks when offroading for\und that it is coming through the rubber pass through for the main wiring harness
I am in the prosess of drying the rubber underlay out at the moment as it is damp in each foot well with alot of surface rust starting to show it's head.
I have no idea where the water has come from
I have taken the seats and carpet out already but have know hope of getting the bloody rubber stuff out though, to get the carpet out the face of the dash and whole console had to come out and still i had to cut abit of the carpet because it went under the dash.

If it was the sunroof you would see it soaking into the headlining as it has a sort of felt texture and it soaks it up and goes dark.
My sunroof was leaking at the gap between sunroof frame and the car roof. I put some black electrical tape round the join and problem solved.
The leak was bad but always dripped onto the rubber mat in the footwell so I could see the puddle.
On the other hand, when my external AC drains were blocked, there was a trickle of water out of the vents above each foot well, rear included. It wasn't obvious until the carpets started to stink.
I took the carpets out and they were soaked and I had pools of water in each foot well. I have them drying at the minute. It's real easy to get them out. Especially if you take the seats out, which is only 4 bolts each seat (I think).
I think if it was the sunroof you would defo see signs in the headlining.
To clear the external AC drains its a simple job or you could run it and look for 2 puddles under the car.
I thought you guys didn't get much rain 'Down Under'. I'm from Ireland and it rains nearly every day
Cheers

I don't have a leak problem with my Series IIA's........The water flows in then the water flows out again....bit like the tide really![]()
Mine also leaks in heavy rain. I've traced it to the top corners of the windscreen. It then runs down the back of the A-pillar trims and drips on the floor.
My windscreen had been replaced by the previous owner and it isn't straight in the opening. At some stage I will put a new windscreen in (it's chipped too) and hopefully this will fix the leak.

You don't necessarily have to take the sponge out in one piece. I lifted the carpet and then used a Stanley knife to cut the sponge around the line of the trans tunnel. It will then come out of drivers and passengers footwell in 2 pieces. To dry out the area borrow the missus hair dryer and leave it aimed in there for a couple of hours.
If I were you I'd be leaving the sponge out till I worked out where the water was coming from.
Some people ( trying to think of the past threads on this ) have had problems with rust holes in the side kick panels below the A pillar . If that's your problem you'd probably need to take the outer guard off to fix it. Another possiblity is the sealing of the metal clips over the gaps in the gutters around the roof. Landrover in their wisdom did not fit any sealant to those allowing water to run into the car though the gap.. You should take those clips off and put silicon in there and refit them.
But I reckon its most likely your windscreen
mine was the blocked and partially detached a/c condensor outlet.it was leaking from the top of the outlet when a/c on...directly onto the ds floor. I ended up cutting the underlay along the angle of the base of the transmission tunnel so that I could get it out and dry...and get it out again if required.
Just found out i have the same problem in my D1 so figured i'd just revive this thread and ask some questions.
Bad news is i did find some rust in footwells (mainly drivers a little passengers) so i've cut out the soaked foam mat and was wondering what is the besy way to remove the rust and re-paint the footwell.
I'm also having troubles and have a few questions.
I don't have a sunroof, its seems to leak when in the rain or when i use the windscreen washers.
Any ideas on where it might be leaking from?
Probably the windscreen

Yeah thats what i was thinking with mine, checked the a/c drains and they were clear and don't have a sunroof. Going to leave the matting out untill i find the source of the leak
