Hi mate - I run a 95 that has done about 150k with LPG (255k all up) and no problems to date with no lubricant. If its an unlead motor you should be ok, but you can never get too much protection!
Cheers
Hi,
I have a D1 V8 on LPG (mixer style) without the little bottle of upper cylinder lubricant.
My last car was also on LPG but had the bottle. I could always tell when it was empty as the engine was slightly more rattly and the idle was not quite as smooth.
I'm considering adding the upper cylinder lubricant to the D1, and am looking for some information on where the lubricant is plumbed into the D1 system.
If someone has a photo that would be even better.

I wouldnt worry about it, if you already have by all means fit it but as rovers have alloys heads with hardened valve seat inserts it is not required.

I also have a 95 V8, now at 299,000 kilometres, which I converted to gas at 60,000 kilometres (so nearly 240,000 on gas). Also no problems to date without upper cylinder lubricant.

Nice 1 Guv
I am one of the people who prefer to use the upper cylinder lubricant - vehicles may last a long while without it but I intend to keep it running for many more than the two decades I've had it already (the 4.6 only 1 decade).
My engine is essentially the same as yours and I use the nipple for the vacuum advance in the top of the plenum right behind where the air cleaner hose (or in my case the gas mixer) attaches.
The Flash Lube kits are available at Repco stores.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
In an alloy headed engine all the Upper Cylinder Lube does it build carbon on the valves and on the pistons.
Thanks guys.
I like this car, so probably going to keep it for a while, and was more concerned with prevention.
It appears with the alloy heads and strong valves that I may not need any extra lubricant.
Seems that there are some D1's with a lot of LPG k's and no problems - so maybe I'll just forget that idea.
