Disco 1 and Airbags
Hi All
I may be in the running for "stupid question of the week" here but here goes:
I have seen airbags to suit RR and LR Disco 1 available on evilbay.
Apart from holding up the rear a little when loaded what other advantage would airbags give a Disco 1? Would they work on a vehicle with a 2" OME lift kit?
And is fitting them as simple as pumbing an airline to them from, say, the rear cargo area so that they can be inflated at a servo stop?
I'm not sure if my situation warrants these, apart from a slight sag in the rear when fully loaded the Disco goes well. Do you think the advantage warrants the expense ($650 ish) ?
Cheers
Jason

They are worthwhile if you tow heavy trailers or have variable loads in the Disco.
Your springs should be correct for 80% of the loads you carry and airbags should only need to be used to correct those occasional loads you may carry or tow.
I have had airbags in RRCs for 25 years and would always fit them to coil sprung LRs for loads.
The problems that you will encounter is if you have spring re-locating cones as part of your lift kit.

Hi jason7001,
My disco came with air "springs" as they call them. and auto level very nice when you tow a van. but had trouble in the west when one leaked . could not work out what was up untill i inflated the bag with the tyer pump, undid the small tube,s and used the thing you pump up foot balls with.. and could hear the air coming out. $550 for one ..mmm . very easy to replace.. did a funny thing when I put the tubes back got them crossed over, yep one side got very high , didnt take long to work that out, should have marked the tubes..when in the west who cares as long as you get up and going. think they are the bees knees..have seen two for less than that on ebay..I just smile..Robert42..
