Need info on a 1996-7 Discovery

As the title says im after info on a 1996-7 Discovery. The pros and cons of it besides the bad fuel economy of a V8.Im looking at getting one and either selling my current 1993 Disco complete or stripping it and selling it.Havent quite decided yet.Im after a 3.9 V8 and if the money is right an ES model with the leather. What sort of price should i be looking at and what sort of things should i look for when buying one, like rust in the alpine windows and so on.Any help would be great because i would like to get one asap.

    Thanks
    Chris

Chris, apart from the updated interior/exterior and 3.9 and or R380 5spd, its much the same beast. I am yet to see a badly rusted alpine window apart from those who have posted pics on here, generally the 96+ models were a bit better built and dont seem to suffer the electrical gremlins that the earlier ones suffered, find a good clean one and go for it - should get 1 for less than 8k easily.

I've got a 96 V8, the fuel economy isn't what I would call bad. It just depends how you drive it. I generally get 15K / 100 liters on the freeway and about 25K / 100 liters around town if your up and down the gear box.

The bits which rust are the roof, the wheel arches on the rear doors. If the seals around the alpine windows are dried out and they collect water then eventually they will rust out. Also when you open the rear doors check the wheel arch next to the seat for signs of rust.

Mine has rust in both of these places but nothing major, the rest of the body is ally, I think the bonnet is steel ? My bonnet is a replacement which is steel but I don't know if they are originally ally as well.

Besides that check the chassis, bushes, shocks, swivel houses and the hoses are usually dried out. You already have a disco so you know the drill

Nothing unusual for a 12 year old car, the redbook value of them are around 8k but it varies depending on where in aust you are and on condition.

    15k/100L.
    The other way me think.

My Disco ES 94 3.9 is returning 20l average on petrol and 25L /100k's on gas.
    Great car with no rust.
I paid $5500 and spend 2k on it plus the gas.

Great car, buy cheap and spend a little to get it running the way you like that way you know the fluids and everything is up to date.

CD stacker, twin sunroofs, air con all is working for now.
Lucas might decide to not work in morning but thats the beauty of a Landy!

    Best of luck.
