I don’t know if you have done it yet but if I may offer some recent experience talk

2 inch to the Y section 2.5 inch there after one 2.5 inch cat one straight through muffler, one resonator it sound brilliant but way to loud and you loose to much back pressure however your motor revs like a formula 1 race car.

You need something with a baffle even so it’s still plenty loud but you have back pressure on a D1 with out a cat I would have 2 to the Y then 2.5 there after a resonator a straight through muffler and muffler with a baffle for a D2 much the same but a Cat instead of a resonator

You could go less diameter piping if you wanted and have fewer mufflers but I wouldn’t go down that road I’m sure if Land Rover thought they could get more out of the motor by less diameter piping they would have gone down that road

I had mine done last week after 24 hours I had to take it back to Liverpool exhaust and have the Resonator changed to a baffled muffler it was way to loud didn’t move when stomped and it got to much attention sounded mad though but reminded me of an old HQ Holden with 253 that made sound yet didn’t go anywhere changed the resonator to muffler it revs slower it picks up better and still sounds like a real V8

    Food for thought

Yes I had the same. I had a 2.5 inch with a straight through muffler and rear resonator it sound great out of the car but was deafening in the car. Took it back and had triple flow muffler? fitted. Sounds great but not insanely loud plus it sounds sweet in the cab and now I can talk to my wife. Oh maybe I will get it louder.
All good with the sound but 4.4 inj motor might be the next on the cards.

Put up a link to Youtube or something so I can have a listen. Curious to see how it sounds as I hate the 253 note I got atm. All I want is that deep rolling bass note the D2's have without all the bark!

Ok my brother did his work on my Disco on Saturday he place 2.5 from the Y pipes to a straight through muffler then over the diff 2.5 but then went 3.0 near the end with twin tips.

Now it sounds very awsome but on the long trips too much drone going on and lucky for the headache tablets on hand will be going back this Saturday to have a resenator or baffle can't remeber what he mentioned to me but it will bring the drone down and make a deeper sound.

Back pressure meaning as if the motor had no compression tacho was as if it it had no end and flicked to 6000 mark in a flash

I still don't understand your back pressure comment. Relating it to engine compression has made me even more confused .
