Discovery Modifications???

Iv decided on a 2inch lift from eBay at a very good price, as for tyres im still searching for that glass slipper :confused: some have said running 245/75r16 (30.5" tall) will fit fine yet others say i will still need to cut the guards even after the lift :(...or iv thought of going a little taller with 255/75/r16 (31" tall) but iv had the same mixed responses about the guards :o

So does anyone know 100% if these sizes will rub or not?:confused: (keep in mind i am getting a 2inch lift :D)

I ended up cutting my panels after my rear tyre contacted rear 1/4 on articulation which folded the whole lot up 90 degrees from where it should be.... that was running 245/75r16's with a 2 inch lift only.

so in my experience yes they do rub

despite the long list of goodies in my earlier post

in all seriousness i've been running a disco with just the basic mods you are talking about (2 inch lift and 245/75's) for the last coupla years and it gets alot further than people expect.
I think you will regret not getting muddies though, road manners are not so bad with them and i wouldn't have made half the tracks i have without them!!

Yes they will rub ( unless you're only going to go to Coles in it )-But for 245/75 you don't need the full "camel cut" which may be scaring you a bit.
So you have two choices 1) leave it and risk damaging your panels ( don't ask me how I know ), or 2) trim. I guess if you get the lift and tyres on then gently flex it up on a culvert or something you'll soon find out.
Just try trimming the inner lip of the rear quarter panel ( the horizontal lip ) at 45 deqrees first. ( you can do it with a pair of aviation snips - it's only alloy ) If it still rubs you might need to consider a small trim on the vertical part of the panel.

Here's the trim I had to finally put on mine -it doesn't touch with this cut ( well not that I've found ). The shot is a close up and makes it look worse than it actaully is.

Iv found some Delta A/T for $220 a tyre fitted which seems about the price i was planning on paying, As for muddies if you can suggest a good mud tyre in that size for a similar price i will deffinetly have a look into it! How do they fair with wear on the road are they softer? and do they wear down quicker then an A/T on the hard stuff?

Oh and the idea of tacking to my pannel with a set of tin-snips :eek: but if its going to save my tyres it would be worth it :)

Im now starting to think sticking with the standard sized tyre with a 2" lift would be a better option so i wont need any further modifications or lose any of the gearing etc, also it will be slightly cheaper for me to get 29" tall tyres instead of 30"-31" tyres. As for the mud or All Terrain ill continue to do my research and see what i can find.

if you are doing more road driving than offroad driving i would be getting the A/T's as they will last a lot longer on the black stuff ;).

Yeah thats one of the main reason i thought id stick with the A/T tyres :) as for which one to chose im not too sure i was quoted $220 fitted per tyre for the Delta A/T...Do any of you guys know of a competitive tyre to this offer?

Any of you guys running a 2" lift with Standard sized Tyres :eek: oh and the lift fitted has come to $910, but I'm thinking of getting a steering dampener but only if needed whats your comments? :)

read on Disco web, a few year back, were you can also push the guard out, by putting a spacer on the mud flap bracket, which pushes the guard out.
