If your oem steering damper is o.k then i would not bother replacing until it needs to be(You did say you where on a budget).
Don't know the tyer you are looking at, Nankang mudstars aren't to bad and about the same money. If you are planning to do any offroad then go the 245/75r16 and do the snip shown above.(it is all you need and hardly noticeable). A/t or m/t depends on what driving you are going to do but if you want to go offroad muds are best and fine onroad.If you are only going offroad every so often then at's would be the go. I believe once you go offroad you will want to go further so just buy the muds:p.

Tyres are a very personal thing and people will argue forever about which is better/best.

IMHO - I have BFG A/Ts and they suit my needs perfectly. I do a fair amount of blacktop kms but when I get off road I still want some level of performance. I am finding that they are wearing VERY well and I have never been left behind by my friends when the going gets rough. I think economically they are a very good option.

I'm not going to bother with the dampener too save that little extra money :)...Iv booked Grover in (like all good 4x4's he has been named) for a service to make sure everything is doing what it should be doing to its best ability, then ill have the suspension fitted Lovelle shocks all round and Dobinson Coils 2inch raise :D...

See what it looks like riding with the standard tyres as iv been told the standards will preform just as well off road :) and I'm thinking of going with the Delta (the cheaper tyre made by cooper tires to try and flood the market) as iv been quoted $195 fitted and balanced for the standard size.Id love but cant afford the BFG A/T :(

Two main reasons making me think about sticking to the standard size is the fear of cutting the guard and the extra money i would have to spend.

As iv said i would love to run the BFG A/T i think they are a terrific tyre! but for a full set ill save $220 if i go with the deltas (this is standard sizes) and being a student thats a fair saving, i talk to my local tyre dealer and he agrees that the Delta is a great tyre for its price and that they are also a very good wearing tyre which is one of my major concerns :)

Im not to into the heavey stuff just yet i generally just explore fire trails and do a little light off roading so muds arnt really on the cards just yet.

My long term plans are to keep Grover at the lightly modified stage and save up some money to buy a cheap built zook as i live on a property with plenty of bush so it would be a good way to learn some things and make some mistakes without costing too much.

If you're wanting to stay close to std tyre size then I'd recommend the 225/75, it's a little taller than stock and does help you out. Rule of thumb with Rangies and Discos is don't go too wide on the rubber becasue there is a raft of changes you need to make to make them work reliably & properly.

Yeap, iv had a look at that size they say its the tallest you can go with out putting the speed out or needing any changes which is what im keen on, to get that size in the BFG A/T it will cost me $239 per tyre fitted im not sure if they have that size in the Delta but im sure if they did it would be much cheaper again :D

I have heard great reports on these tyres, great value for money;)
They measure 29.5 inches, but if you ask the guy for other sizes i'm shore he can get them;)

Iv seen these tyres on eBay before but after factoring in the shipping cost im not sure if it is truely cost effective also wouldnt running the wider tyre cause the rubbing iv been trying to avoid? ;)

Ok now that iv got myself fairly sorted thanks to all of you guys on here!

I'm now starting to think to get the most out of my 4x4 without taking it to far which iv managed to do before with a mates 4x4 :(, iv been thinking maybe taking a driver training course then joining a club?!

Any comments on how to join a club or what the costs usually are, and what the perks and slumps of being a member are!? :eek:

Joining a club is great and definitely do a driver training. I did mine with the LROCV but could not get to any function so did not renew. I have just started going on a couple of Aulro trips and there is some very helpful people that will help out the beginners. This site is great in so many ways if you can get out on some trips you will learn a lot from these guy's and gals
