Thread: D1 interior roof lining

It's been a while since I was inside an early D1 so just compare the interior trim. The early car might be slightly different in some places.

It might not make a difference but just check before wasting time & money removing it.

if your lining is not too sagged using a warm travel iron can reactivate the glue a bit to get it to stay up

The trouble is not with the glue but the foam backing on the lining itself falling apart. Often you'll see half/side of the foam on the board, the other half/side is still on the lining.

I know of 2 early (uglydash) D1's that I might be able to scavenge headlings from, but would be loathe to go to the effort if they, too, may sag

Mines a '91 'uglydash' and sits in the sun all day. No issues with sagging. The trim around the side and alpine windows is all peeling back though.

This is exactly the problem. I have not replaced a Disco lining yet but 3 in early Range Rovers. All I did was get the materal from a local upholstery outlet. Cost worked out at less than $100. A couple of hours work and it looks good as new. The material may need to be ordered in but this gives time for the cleaning of the lining etc. And you get the satifaction of doing it yourself.

Exactly the same with my 93 Tdi.

Friday I went to a guy here in Geelong called Williamson Trimmers in Newtown he quoted me about $350 to do the job but he doesn't use the same material instead he use's a carpet like material that has strech in it and is lighter but after looking at it I thought that it would not look good and could be a dust trap. He even explained that he has already done a few Land Rover's with it and the ownrs were happy with it something I can't believe as when I picture it up there looking like a cheap nasty fix.

I am also considering a of getting MDF panel that is very light and cutting out the size of the sun roof spaces and placing them over it so when it does get done it will be all flat with no sun roof indents as I believe this is where the drop starts.

I am also looking at the same material that is used in my VZ Commodore roof linning as it looks much better I think it is also used in the Falcons of the same year as well.

I just removed my roof lining sunday and I will be dropping it off to the guy in Geelong and since I will not be keeping my landy I will just get the lining replaced as before no mods bit I will be picking a different material this time.

It was no fun getting it out not really that easy and I can see why it fails early the backing LR uses is crap and cheap it's like the whole thing is foam it's not going to be fun getting it back in the wagon and then installing it back into the LR without making a crease as it is flimsy and floppy.
