If you have the twin button remote, then there is 2 things firstly to check. Open the unit up, (Prise apart gently) and check that the battery is not flat, replace it if in doubt anyway, it is a CR2025 3v one. Secondly, carefully examine the 3 soldered joints that hold the battery cradle to the printed circuit board for breakage / dry joints. This will basically render it useless and will require soldering again. It is easy if you have experience with small fidly soldering projects. (I was an electronics geek when I was younger, so it's fun for me)
If after this it still isn't working, try the resynchronising which is press either of the buttons for at least 5 times within 6 or 7 seconds. Failing these methods, it may have lost it's rolling code altogether in which case a dealer or someone with Rovacom or similar diagnostic computer will have to reprogram it. Be sure that if you have 2 remotes, that they both get done at the same time, otherwise the other one will be 'desynchronised'

    Similar Problem

Hi Justin, thanks for your comments, I have a similar problem with a 1999 Discovery II I have just bought at an auction. The 2 button key fob does not unlock the car via central locking, you can open the drivers door with the key but this activates the alarm which is a pain, the drivers door can however be locked with lock button on the key fob!!!

What are the steps to getting in deactivating the alarm so I can drive it to someone to take a look at the central locking etc.

Was thinking I'd get it services anyway before we start the project to upgrade engine, shocks etc!!

    Cheers

    James

James, You will need the EKA code, it should be with the paperwork, or you'll need to obtain it from a dealer (quote your VIN).

If you have this you can get in and get going.
