The reason i want to extend bumpstops is to stop the shocks bottaming out, not for extra travel, the shocks are the first to stop down travel not the springs, but the springs are fairly solid

another good reason why not to shorten your shock mounts. if you raise them by 50mm then the compressed length of the shock will get closer to the bumpstop, thats IF your spring rates arent to stiff. i found that 220lb in the rear and 190lb in the front of a disco worked really well on and off road, that coupled with 10'' stroke shocks front and rear. if your shocks are +4'' then your running 12'' stroke would be a good starting point as to why your shocks are topping out!

where did you get the springs and shocks from?

    cheers phil

bumpstops dont have anything to do with downward travell.
    they stop shocks topping out.

    Thanks again Discowhite

    righto,
shanes springs should be dobbinsons, they may be a bit stiff but will work well with a bit of weight in the disco. as others said in the linked post the shocks are only +2'' not +4''.

Yep Shanes springs are dobbinsons, they are 3" flexy coils (only flexy in the rear) and he has only sold afew sets as he is still testing them and receiving feedback from the few who have bought them, he hasn't advetised yet
I didn't notice those posts about them only being only 2" longer then stock, i measured them against a standard shock and they were about 4" longer
Here are some pics of the rear springs against some 2" kings..

So if i raise shock mounts will i loose down travel?

well, yes and no, what it dose is change where the opperating range of the stroke is. there is no point having 10'' stroke shocks if your only using 8'' of travell. say now you have 6'' down and 2'' up, if you raised the towers you ''should'' be able to get 5''down and 5'' up, roughly... as said the front is hard to flex so you might as well get the most out of it that you can. another thing is to flip the big cup washers on the radius arm chassis end's around, this frees the bush up and allows more movement.

    Thanks Phil
I'll do some measuring and play around with raising it and see if it helps
I might even flip the big cup washer

I would expect better travel from shanes flexy coils. Exspecially in the rear.
    I rule!!!

    2.4" of Pure FURY!!!
