I'm up for some new tyres very soon

OK so i'm going to be up for some new tires soon

and I know this subject gets done to death...but I had a search and actually didn't come up with much ........If it annoys you that I have started yet another tyre thread then just don't read on and don't post

I don't actually know what tyres i'm looking at yet..

    BUT size wise?

I run 255/70/16's at the moment......Should I stick with this size?

    or go
    • 265/70/16 or
    • 265/75/16
.................would either of these fit on my D1 with a 2" lift? yes the guards have been cut but still managed to catch them with the 255's on but the tyres had reasonable size lugs on them

would there be much noticable size difference in tyres.......I run mongrels so i cant help but feel if I go a less agggresive mud terrain the tyres are going to look small

this is the tyre I run at the moment

this is what I'm considering running

Federal M/T...............Anyone got any reports on these

    BFG km2

    money permitting

I like the federals, and have heard a few good reports on them but no personal experiances, you would most likely be paying a fair bit for them but not as much as the BFG'S i should imagine
and i would go with the 265/75/16s simply because they are bigger and look better

I agree with Tim but you may need to trim the guards a bit more.

    DB,
I sold my 265/70 Silverstone AT 117 to a mate with a D1 who only had a 2" lift, we trimmed the rear guards slightly and he never had any issues. He had a tweaked 300Tdi 5 spd and it would drive this size tyre fine. The 265/75 MAY be a little tall geared for the Tdi, but be better off the road

I would love to replace my Current 255/85/16 BFG mud terrrains for the new KM2's, but I can't see anywhere where my size is available They certainly look and sound like the goods.

If I trim the guards a bit more I reckon I will have to put flares on.....

no seriously when I trimmed the guards for the 255/70/16's we lifted the rear right up on a fork lift and stuffed the wheel right in to the wheel arch and trimmed a fair bit off.....

So i'm hoping I dont have too.....if I do I do but I dont want to trim it to the point that if I had to put flares on I couldn't because the guard was trimmed up to much

Not wanting to hijack the thread, but in the same position. I have looked at MT's in 235/85, and 265/75 but cant decide. I belive the narrower tyre may be better for the amount of sand driving we do in WA because the tyre does not create as big a sand wave infront of it, and hence less effort for car. This is to go on a TD5.

Mate - couldnt agree more...contrary to a belief by some a narrower and taller tyre is better in sand...otherwise its like trying to roll a log in comparison.
