    Newbie Questions

Sorry if these questions have been answered elsewhere, but my IT skills are rather limited.....
I had a 97 TDi in the past, and i LOVED the car, but simply could not afford to keep it on the road, so it went for a sensible car
Well now a few years on, and i am looking for my car (the second car in the family) and would love another fourby, and of course i just love discos, and they are certainly no at the "right price".
    BUT
Can they be made a reliable, sensible daily driver? I have limited technological skills, and that includes diy car stuff (but i am willing to learn if anyone wants a padawon learner). Is it likley that its just going to cost me $$$$$$$, or can i spend some now to save much later. Please help where you can, i SOOOO want another TDi in the drivway, but i certainly dont want a repeat of last time.
    Thanks in advance
    Scott

I bought my 1996 Discovery TDI in July last year and since put on approx 40000kms. Used as my work vehicle and is a daily driver. Do all maintenance myself as I cannot afford to have it off the road for a day while it is being serviced, and it is hard to find a mechanic who works outside normal business hours. I have found my Disco to be very reliable (Now has just under 300,000kms on the odometer). I love it.

Scott, if you choose to own a D1 again , remember the newest one you can get now will be a minimum of 11 years old. Then there is the vehicles history and of course the mileage traveled. Realistically, it will be similar to purchasing any old vehicle, there is only a limited amount of pre- purchase research and mechanical checking you (or a mechanic) can do. There is always an element luck involved in purchasing anything second-hand……

I would suggest having some money kept aside for possible future repairs and maintenance.

    Cheers Mate

Scott if you loved a D1 you will love a D2 even more... quieter, smoother, more power. If you read posts on here they have their issues but compared to a TDi the TD5 is much nicer to drive... That'll probably set off the TDi crowd...
